It's almost three weeks since I told you about our new interest in gardening and I thought you might like to know how we're getting on. Things are hotting up inside his little hothouse!
You'll be happy to know that the the beetroot and carrots are starting to grow....
The lettuce plants that I...ahem...'saved' grew so much that even Millie the cat agreed...
They had to be replanted....
Sadly, but not surprisingly, the Kiwi plant didn't sprout. I'm sure Kiwi plants aren't used to regular hail showers....in May! However, his melon plant is doing rather well.....
Millie the cat likes to get involved too as you can see and that's fine, so long as she doesn't get too involved, if you catch my drift!
It's a great hobby I must say and although he needs some encouragement his interest is not waning. It's a very therapeutic hobby for any child and a wonderful opportunity for displaying responsibility and looking after something....other than themselves! And transferring the plants in and out of the house in this cold Irish weather and watering them is cheap O.T.
Oh yes, Salad Days are coming alright.
Now, if only we could grow some summer weather as the perfect accompaniment.
xx

I so love this! How fun it must be to see your son take such an interest in something so beneficial for him - and your salad plates! :)
ReplyDeleteThis just looks fantastic, but I am a little worried about Millie's interest - could she be the first cat in the history of the world to eat lettuce?
ReplyDelete@AlongCameTheBird: Yes,I have a smile on my face every time I see him 'at work'....even if it makes him a little late for school! We're really looking forward to sampling the produce.
ReplyDelete@Blue Sky: Hmmm....she could indeed! If so I'll take a photo! She tends to dig compost up though so that's my real worry. Although when she was sniffing around the tomato plants above it turns out she was just looking for water! Still don't trust her!
Thanks for your comments :-)

Great photo's, Jazzy. I love that your boy is so interested in his garden... and you get to reap the rewards. :)
ReplyDeleteIt's so great to see WiiBoy gardening...and if I'm not mistaken, I also spotted some real, actual sunshine in the photos too! Was that a mirage?? XXX
ReplyDeleteIf you manage to grow some sun, can you send it to Glasgow please?!?!?! I will pay good money for it!!!
ReplyDelete@The Bright Side of Life: Thanks, hopefully we get to reap the rewards! The cold Irish 'summer' weather is NOT helping!
ReplyDelete@Jean: That was probably the sun coming out either just before or after a freezing cold hailstone shower!!
@Julie: hehehe! You getting the same crap weather then?!!
Thanks for your comments :-)
xx Jazzy
Looking good... I have some repotting to do today, I wish I had his enthusiasm! :)
ReplyDelete@BavarianSojourn: Good luck!we have some more repotting to do here too and it does take some encouragement to get him to do it. Not too much though, he's really happy with his gardening skills :-)
